EFFECTIVE FAKING TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES WEBINAR
SUNDAY, MARCH 02, 2025

Tom Sotis will present his comprehensive approach to Faking with six stages of development. Faking is a vital element of fighting, especially when weapons are involved, though these tactics are executable with empty hands too.
AUTHENTICITY: The essential elements of executing a proper fake that “sells” it are explored by learning to avoid the common pitfalls of making a ”fake strike” that precedes the actual strike. We will explore activities that permit trainees to execute fakes-n-strike attacks in real time.
TARGETING: The real time activities then proceed to cover Fakes through targeting body parts. (When fighting, from moment to moment, you see an available body part and you do something to it). When targeting a person in motion (not one under your dominion and control) you “see” an available Arm, Body, Leg, or Head so we cover how to initiate a fake at one of these body parts while executing the intended strike to that same body part of another body part. This approach is simple, easy to learn, and is congruent with how you execute them in real time.
GEOMETRY: The next stage of development presents a geometrical approach that covers how to execute fakes Vertically, Horizontally, Diagonally, and Circularly. This stage provides even more control over setting up your attack.
TIMING: This stage of development presents various techniques for changing the timing of a strike’s delivery. Typically, this means how to withhold a delivered strike so the timing occurs in 1.5 moments rather than in 1 moment, often referred to as “holding a half-beat”.
MECHANICS: This stage of development presents various techniques for changing the specific mechanical delivery of the strike itself. These are achieved through Holding, Floating, Zig-zagging, and Drifting.
PROBING: The final stage of Faking covers how to probe your opponent with undelivered attacks to draw out their reflexive response, how to recognize the three types of responses, and how to select the exact form of faking that most easily defeats their reflexive reaction.
This is an INFO-PACKED seminar so you might want to bring a notebook.
